I am not mad for tanning,  I love a fair skin and a dark skin equally.  But, it's universally accepted, that after a long winter a small dose of color can really refresh one's look and hide any manner of small skin imperfections.

In order to apply makeup flawlessly, you should follow the following steps:

1. Prepare and moisturize the skin: Begin your makeup routine by spraying clean water on your face as it can help clear the skin and give it supple, radiant look. Next, use the moisturizer that best suits your skin type.

4. Even out the foundation: Apply foundation in a shade that matches your skin’s color the closest. To create an evened out look, apply same number of coats on both face and neck. Although you can add layers of foundation, avoid overdoing it since it can give a very caked and artificial look. 

5. Contour and apply blush: Now comes the time to add color to the skin. Start by defining the facial features with the help of a bronzer and highlighter. Then, apply the shade of blush that best complements your look. 

6. Define eyebrows and eyes: With the help of an eyebrow pencil, outline eyebrows and fill in any gaps. Next, prime your eyelids and start filling them in with your chosen shade of eye shadow. Complete the look with eyeliner and mascara.

7. Apply lip color: Finally, color your lips with the lip shade of your choice. Depending upon your preference and time of the day, you can either choose to put on a lip gloss or go with a lipstick.

Concealer is more dense than foundation, allowing fuller coverage of trouble spots and hyperpigmentation (red areas). It can be used over foundation or on it own, and has greater staying power. Remember, a little goes a long way!

1. Since the skin under your eyes is more transparent, it tends to look dark, especially at the inner corner near the bridge of the nose. To even out the tone, concealer is a must. Using liquid concealer, gently pat over dark under-eye circles (don't sweep it across the entire area), then blend with your ring finger.

2. To cover trouble spots and imperfections, apply a thicker cream concealer onto the blemish or flaw. Then lightly press with a makeup sponge.

Tip: Choose the shade of your concealer carefully. When testing out shades, pick one that matches your skin tone or one shade lighter. It helps to use a mirror outdoors to see how shades look on your skin in natural light.

Apply one thin coat of mascara to both upper and lower lashes.

For a more dramatic look, allow first coat to dry completely then apply a second coat concentrating on the base of the lash.

Tip: For a real eye-opener, use an eyelash curler before applying mascara. Curl gently at the base of the lashes, but never beyond the center of the lashes. Don't clamp down on one spot for too long or you'll get a sharp angle.

Tip: Don't pump the applicator wand in the mascara tube. Doing so will trap air inside and cause the mascara to dry out. Instead, twist the wand to collect more mascara on the brush.

Well-defined, well-groomed brows

Eyebrows give expression to your face, so frame your eyes with a classic and becoming eyebrow shape.

1. Brush your eyebrows straight up with an eyebrow brush. Using small straight scissors, carefully trim any hairs that are curly or too long. Then brush the brows back into their natural shape.

2. Hold a pencil along the side of your nose to ensure that the inner edge of your brow lines up with the inside corner of your eye.

3. Move the pencil so that it intersects with your iris. The arch of your brow should line up with the pencil.

4. Angle the pencil from the outside edge of your nose to the outer corner of your eye to determine where your brow should end.

5. Tweeze where necessary and fill in with a soft pencil or powder.

6. Brush with an eyebrow brush and apply eyebrow gel to keep strays in place. You're done!

Oh my goodness! What a godsend the Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak has been!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month – a perfect time to focus on proper sun protection and to educate ourselves on this important and possibly life-saving topic. Worldwide skin cancer rates get higher every year. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, more than 2 million Americans alone are diagnosed with skin cancer annually; Cancer Council Australia, however, reports that Australia has the highest skin cancer incidence rate in the world – nearly four times the rates in Canada, the US and the UK.

The Skin Cancer Foundation also reports that approximately 90 percent of non-melanoma skin cancers and 65 percent of melanomas are due to exposure to UV radiation from the sun, making sun protection of utmost importance in preventing skin cancer.

KNOWLEDGE IS KEY: UNDERSTAND THE FACTS AND LINGO!

UVA (Ultraviolet A): UVA plays a major role in wrinkling, leathering, sagging and other effects of photoaging, as it penetrates the skin more deeply than UVB. UVA damages cells in the basal layer of the epidermis, where most skin cancers occur. UVA is a contributor of skin cancer.

UVB (Ultraviolet B): UVB is what reddens or sunburns the skin. It also contributes to the development of skin cancer and photoaging. UVB rays are more significant during mid-day in the summer months; however, they can inflict damage to the skin year round – even in winter!

SPF (Sun Protection Factor): SPF is the measurement of a sunscreen’s ability to prevent UVB from damaging the skin (ie, an SPF 15 sunscreen is supposed to prevent reddening of the skin 15 times longer than if no sunscreen was worn).

Broad Spectrum: Sunscreens labeled “broad spectrum,” such as all of PRIORI®’s sunscreens, protect against damage from both UVA and UVB rays.

SKIN CANCER FOUNDATION SEAL OF RECOMMENDATION

NEW FDA REGULATIONS

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued new rules for sunscreen labeling to help simplify choosing protection from UV radiation. While “broad spectrum” has been used for quite some time for sunscreens, it is not until now that these products are required to meet FDA tests to use this term. Also included in the FDA’s new rules is that the term “waterproof” has been replaced with “water-resistant.”

SPF IS NOT ENOUGH!

Daily SPF protection is an absolute must for protection against skin cancer; no sunscreen, however, can block all UV rays. The Skin Cancer Foundation provides the following tips for further protection against skin cancer:

• Seek the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM.
• Do not burn.
• Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths.
• Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.
• Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
• Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside.
• Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
• Keep newborns out of the sun. Sunscreens should be used on babies over the age of six months.
• Examine your skin head-to-toe every month.
• See your physician every year for a professional skin exam.

In addition to the Skin Cancer Foundation’s recommendations, make sure your sunscreen contains antioxidants to protect against the damaging free radicals that your SPF does not protect against.
